Matt Kibbe interviews Massie and Salatin about Covid-related food shortages, and the federal PRIME Act legislation to alleviate the problem.

Salatin is a hero in the local food movement. I interviewed him in 2006 for the report, “Farm and Freedom Friendly Policies for Oregon,” in which I recommend the state pass a regulatory exemption for local sales of small farm products, essentially challenging federal law much as it has done in other policy areas.

Covid-19 has highlighted the problem of consolidation in America’s food supply in heart-wrenching detail. The country needs the PRIME Act now! If Congress doesn’t act, state and local areas should pass their own emergency exemptions anyway to avert food shortages.
